SCENARIO (which would you rather do):
Sweat and agonize about what to get for your mother-in-law (maybe you don't, but I do!), wrap it up, then find a box to fit it in, then find packaging tape, and THEN find time to go to the post office (with kidlets in tow) to pay expensive shipping costs, and hope it makes it to her on time.
OR
Go to giftcards.com, purchase a discounted gift card, and have it shipped to her (or even easier, send a virtual gift card!). Since you saved $ on shipping, now you have a little more $ to put on the gift card!

You forgot the rest of the scenario - after you sweat and agonize and finally buy, wrap and send it to her so it gets there on time, then she opens it, makes some "meh"-level comment, puts it back in the box and sticks it on the top shelf of her linen closet. Honest, this is how it works! LOL!!
Wow, just looked at the gc site and they're out of almost every card! Oh well - it's still a fabulous idea!!!
